Youth MinistryMiddle School & High School
We strive to minister to Middle School students where they are. You know that your Middle Schooler is no longer a little kid, but he or she is not quite ready for the youth group. They need a form of ministry that lies somewhere between the coloring sheets of Kids’ Ministry and the purity studies of Youth Ministry. Even that oversimplifies it because some Middle Schoolers are happy doing coloring sheets and others would benefit from encouragement toward purity! Sometimes Middle Schoolers act like children and sometimes they act like teens. They are in between the two and in that sense the pop culture term “tweens” fits them nicely.
Our ministry strives to meet them where they are, so we have developed a kind of in between method of ministering to them. On Sunday mornings Middle Schoolers have their own Sunday School class dedicated just to their age range. This class also tries to plan at least one Middle School only event every year for them to participate in. On Wednesday evenings we employ a more traditional age breakdown. Older middle schoolers (7th-8th graders) join our high schoolers for youth group while our younger middle schoolers (5th-6th graders) join the kids for Royal Ambassadors and Girl’s in Action. Middle Schoolers are invited to some kids’ events, some youth events, and then they have some events of their own. This allows them to have the best of both worlds and to be the “tweens” they truly are.
Ministering to High School students has never been more critical than it is today. The enemy prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour (I Peter 5:8). And far too many families in our churches are losing the battle for the hearts and minds of their own teenagers. This is where an effective and biblical youth ministry can be a powerful ally. If childhood is a time for establishing faith and doctrine in our children, then adolescence is the time to strengthen those beliefs and address the challenges to them. Parents know that their teenager’s faith will be challenged by this evil world: storms will come, doubts will assail, attacks will be levied. The only question is, will your teen’s faith be strong enough to weather these storms? Our ministry seeks to help parents instill in their teens an understanding of the Christian faith that is strong enough to bear up under attack. We want to help you bring your teenager to spiritual maturity so that their faith bears fruit both now and in their adult life to come.
